For the next week, everyone who didn't match will be participating in Phase II (aka Clearinghouse, aka Scramble). The internship sites that somehow did not have applicants match to them are posted online, we decide where to apply (i.e., only to really good fits - I wouldn't apply for a VA, when I have never worked in a VA, etc) and our apps need to be in by March 3rd. Then phone interviews are offered (or not). And then there is another match day on March 28th.
If this does not work out, I will be taking another year and accruing more loans.
I think when 22 year olds apply for doctoral-level graduate programs in clinical psych, someone needs to seriously sit down with them and really make them understand what they are getting into. That they are literally going to be jumping through hoop after hoop after seriously unnecessary hoop. No matter how much effort and extra hours they put in, they are most likely not going to be rewarded for it. They are also sentencing themselves to financial ruin. See below:
